Living in the small Sardinian town - Boza, sculptor and environmentalist Alfredo Meschi - is a 50-year-old vegetarian activist who covered his body with 40,000 tattoos, as a visualization of the number of animals killed for human consumption every second.
All his tattoos are made within a year. The crosses that cover the body of Meschi symbolize "Project X" and were chosen as a symbolism:
«X was chosen as a neutral and anonymous label. Often, we use this symbol to count something» - Alfredo explains.Inspired by the fight against vidovism, Meschi decided to carry his philosophy and message, using a tattoo to achieve his goal. Crosses made with vegan ink adorn most of Alfredo's body. The process of creating this protest tattoo took almost a year. Now, he is the walking message of vegetarianism, and he became such, precisely because of his tattoos.
Of course, the start of Alfredo's journey was not easy. Even his own family did not immediately accept his decision to wear this protest on his skin.
The crosses covering Meschi's body may be attractive to eyes, but they are also a pretty beautiful message to the world. Soon, after declaring his beliefs to the world, thousands of people from all of the countries began to join Alfredo's protest, marking their bodies with symbolic crosses.
«Project X» is another proof that tattoos can be much more than just art, and that they can be used to change the situation.
