Jay was born and raised in South Africa, in a very conservative Chinese family. The absence of a real creative scene in Johannesburg led him to emigrate to Europe more than 10 years ago. Since then, he lives and works in one of the most free and creative cities of the old world - Amsterdam.
The creative nature of Jay bring him away from the traditional expectations of his family, and allowed him to develop the talent of the tattoo artist. Being self-taught in this art, he managed not only to comprehend the basics of this craft, but also to go beyond the standard idea of tattooing. Almost all of his works are the result of expressive, pure art. Almost all of his work is freehand. The spontaneity of his art makes every detail of the work unique, and turns every work into a real surprise even for its future owner.
From a technical point of view, Jay's work is a combination of various techniques and styles, such as: watercolor tattoo, pointelism, geometry and abstract realism.
Jay's love to travel allows you to see him in all corners of the world at international conventions and festivals, as well as on the guest spot in leading tattoo shops. His talent brought him many of the highest tattoo awards and worldwide fame. Continuing the daily development of his unique style, he currently gives greater preference to large-scale works. His vision is to create with each work something more than just a tattoo: “I want my art to be memorable to those who see my pieces and empowering to those who wear my pieces. I’m not looking to tattoo the masses, rather the select few who share the same vision as me and who are willing to give up their bodies to immortalize a piece of art on them.”
