EDITORIAL POLICY / 2026Editorial Policy
Our Mission
iNKPPL is an independent international media platform dedicated to tattoo art, culture, and the global community of tattoo artists and enthusiasts. We have operated continuously for over ten years, publishing in nine languages across more than fifty thousand pages of editorial content. Our mission is to document, celebrate, and critically engage with tattoo as a legitimate art form — with the same standards of independence and craft we expect from any serious cultural publication.
This Editorial Policy describes how we make decisions about what we publish, who we cover, and how we separate our editorial work from any commercial relationships. We publish it publicly because transparency is a precondition of credibility.
Who Makes Editorial Decisions
All editorial decisions at iNKPPL are made by our editorial team, led by the Editor in Chief. This includes decisions about:
- Which artists, studios, events, and trends to cover
- The angle, framing, and depth of each piece
- Which images to commission or select
- Whether a completed piece meets our standards for publication
- How content is categorized, translated, and distributed
No commercial partner, advertiser, studio owner, convention organizer, or artist can instruct our editorial team to write about, modify, omit, or frame content in a particular way. Editorial decisions are not for sale, and they are not influenced by whether a subject has any commercial relationship with iNKPPL.
How We Select Artists to Feature
iNKPPL publishes editorial profiles, interviews, and portfolio features on tattoo artists from around the world. Selection is based solely on editorial merit. Our editors and contributors consider:
Quality and distinctiveness of work. We look for artists whose technical execution, visual identity, or conceptual approach merits the attention of a serious audience. This includes both internationally recognized figures and emerging artists whose work has not yet received wide coverage.
Cultural and geographic representation. iNKPPL operates in nine languages across every major tattoo market. We actively seek to represent artists from regions and traditions that are underrepresented in English-language tattoo media.
Timeliness and newsworthiness. We may feature an artist in connection with a significant exhibition, convention appearance, milestone, or body of work that makes them particularly relevant at the time of publication.
Community significance. Artists who have contributed to the development of a style, trained other artists, or shaped a regional scene may be featured in recognition of that contribution.
Artists are never selected because they have subscribed to an iNKPPL paid plan, made any payment to iNKPPL, or requested coverage. Artists may submit nominations through the nomination process described on our website, but submission does not guarantee or create any presumption of coverage. All nominations are evaluated by the editorial team on the same merits as any other potential subject.
Editorial Independence from Commercial Operations
iNKPPL maintains a strict operational separation between its editorial function and its commercial operations. This separation is enforced at the organizational level:
Separate communications. Editorial correspondence is handled exclusively through editorial@inkppl.com. Commercial and partnership inquiries are handled through partnerships@inkppl.com. Neither team has authority over the other's decisions.
No editorial influence from commercial relationships. A studio that purchases directory placement, a convention that purchases promotional coverage, or a brand that engages in a sponsorship arrangement with iNKPPL receives no preferential treatment in editorial content. Commercial relationships are not disclosed to editorial staff when they are evaluating potential subjects.
No pay-to-play editorial. iNKPPL does not sell editorial articles, profiles, interviews, or rankings positions. Any arrangement that would condition editorial coverage on payment is prohibited by this policy.
Sponsored and Commercial Content
When iNKPPL publishes content that has been funded, commissioned, or materially influenced by a commercial partner, that content is clearly and prominently labeled. We use the following labels, applied to the headline area of the content before any other text:
- "Advertisement" — for content paid for by a third party and produced under their direction
- "Sponsored Content" — for content produced by our team under a commercial agreement, where the subject matter or framing has been influenced by the sponsor
- "Promoted" — for content that is organic in origin but whose distribution has been commercially amplified by a partner
These labels appear in a visually distinct format at the top of the relevant page, in every language in which the content appears. Labeled commercial content is kept editorially separate from unlabeled editorial content in site navigation and category feeds wherever technically feasible.
Our advertising and sponsorship disclosure policy is published separately at Advertising Policy.
Corrections Policy
Minor corrections (typographical errors, incorrect dates, misspelled names) are corrected in the text of the article. A note reading "Correction: [brief description of what was corrected and when]" is appended to the article.
Substantive corrections (incorrect factual claims, misquotations, significant omissions that affected the meaning of a piece) are corrected in the text and noted prominently, with a clear explanation of what was wrong and what the correct information is. We do not silently delete or rewrite published articles to remove errors.
Takedowns and removals. iNKPPL will consider requests to remove published content only where it contains provably false factual claims, was published without required legal basis, or constitutes a rights violation. Editorial disagreement with the framing of a piece is not grounds for removal. Requests should be directed to editorial@inkppl.com.
