Ms. Ting (Zhuo Dan Ting) – China’s First Lady of Tattoo

Ms. Ting was born and raised in a small town in Heilongjiang, located in the far northeast of China near Harbin. Her journey into tattooing began in 2001 when she discovered a passion for an art form that was far from mainstream in China at the time. In 2003, she opened her first tattoo studio, Wenyifuxing in Harbin, quickly gaining recognition for her groundbreaking work. Due to her exceptional artistry, CNN dubbed her “China’s First Lady of Tattoo.”

In 2007, Ting moved to Shanghai and established Shanghai Tattoo, which remains one of the city's most renowned tattoo studios. As her reputation grew internationally, she expanded her creative vision by opening a second location, Ms. Ting’s Shanghai Tattoo, in Folsom, California, in 2018. Now residing in California full-time, Ting continues to bring her artistic mastery to clients from around the world.

Ting is a passionate traveler, regularly guesting at prestigious tattoo studios and conventions across Asia, the USA, Europe, and Australia. An animal lover at heart, she dreams of one day creating a small sanctuary filled with chickens, dogs, and cats.

Her tattoo expertise spans a wide range of styles, including black-and-grey and color photorealism, Asian traditional designs, brushed-style Chinese calligraphy, and intricate watercolor art. She specializes in large-scale pieces such as full sleeves, back pieces, chest panels, and torso tattoos, but she also enjoys creating meaningful smaller tattoos like portraits and calligraphy.

While Ting’s creative interests are diverse, her favorite subject matter involves bold, gory horror imagery. She also loves drawing on her cultural roots, crafting elegant and powerful designs rooted in traditional Chinese aesthetics.

Ting’s artistry and vision continue to make her a trailblazing figure in the global tattoo community.
