What does a scorpion tattoo mean?

The scorpion survives in some of the harshest places on earth, so the tattoo reads as strength, resilience and protection, with a clear warning attached: don't touch me. It also carries a thread of transformation, a move from one phase of life to the next. In ancient Egypt the scorpion belonged to the goddess Serqet, protector against venomous stings, and scorpion amulets were worn for the same protection. Greek myth ties it to the death of Orion, after which Zeus set it among the stars as a constellation. Many people born under Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) choose it as a zodiac sign; others simply like its sharp silhouette. A raised stinger signals readiness to defend. Realism, tribal and Celtic designs are common, mostly in black or deep blue.
