Efren is a tattoo artist based in Valencia, Spain, whose practice is defined by versatility and a strong ability to adapt each idea to its most fitting visual form — from refined black and grey pieces to rich, fully saturated color compositions. Rather than limiting himself to a single style, he approaches every tattoo as an individual task, where composition, flow, and the way the design interacts with the body play a central role.
Over the years, Efren has become a multiple award-winning artist at major conventions, including Best in Show and Best of the Day, while also gaining international experience through collaborations and travels with the renowned Holy Trinity team across the UK and the United States.
His path into tattooing was anything but accidental. Efren’s uncle was a tattoo artist, and from an early age he was exposed to the process firsthand. Watching him work, Efren developed a genuine fascination with the craft. He gradually immersed himself in tattooing without pressure or rigid ambition, allowing his growth to unfold naturally.
“I never thought this would become my profession… I just kept learning what I truly enjoyed.”
From childhood, his uncle remained a key reference point in his visual world. Through him, tattooing revealed itself as part of a broader creative environment where music, illustration, comics, and airbrushing coexisted. This early exposure shaped Efren’s visual awareness and his sense of form.
Today, Efren works at the intersection of realism and custom composition, with a strong preference for black and grey while maintaining full control over color work. His portfolio includes portraits of people and animals, cinematic characters, as well as classic realism subjects such as mythology, predators like lions and tigers, and female portraits.
At the same time, he avoids defining himself within a fixed stylistic identity, continuing to refine his voice:
“The idea itself — its meaning — tells you how everything should come together and how to connect it with your approach.”
Technique forms the foundation of his work. Composition, structure, form, and adaptation to the body are at the core of every piece. For Efren, the primary goal is always technical precision and a clean, well-executed result.
Each project goes through several stages, with hours dedicated to research, references, and finding the most accurate solution — regardless of style. For him, tattooing is as much about the process as it is about the final result:
“Every tattoo is a small adventure.”
In recent years, Efren has built an impressive record across major tattoo conventions in the United States. Since 2023, he has been a consistent presence at leading festivals, regularly placing in key categories, particularly in black and grey realism.
“Above all, it’s about knowledge and new influences — seeing the level of other strong artists, building professional connections, and constantly changing your environment. That’s what expands your perspective and pushes you to grow.”
His list of achievements now includes more than 15 awards, with multiple first-place wins in Tattoo of the Day categories, large-scale black and grey projects, and color work. Notably, at the Asheville Tattoo Arts
Festival he secured several first places across different categories, while at the Lehigh Valley Tattoo Expo he ranked among the top artists, earning placements up to Best in Show. Between 2024 and 2026, Efren continued to strengthen his position with new wins at Kansas City, Atlanta, and the Ark-La-Tex Tattoo Expo.
Efren comes across as an artist with a strong foundation who continues to evolve through constant practice and attention to detail.
