Wolf Tattoos

What does a wolf tattoo mean?

Wolf tattoos rest on one tension: the pack and the lone wolf. A pack design speaks of family, loyalty and defending your people; parents use it for their children, veterans for their unit. A lone wolf stands for self-reliance through a hard passage, like the young animal that leaves to claim its own territory. Mythology widens the range. Norse Fenrir is untamable power bound by the gods, the she-wolf of Rome nursed Romulus and Remus, and in Shinto tradition the wolf was revered as a divine messenger and guardian of travelers. Composition shifts the reading: a howling wolf can mean connection or solitude, wolf and moon point to instinct and cycles, wolf eyes to vigilance. Realism, geometric split designs and watercolor are all common.
