On April 3–4, 2027, Wuhan will become one of the key meeting points for the international tattoo community. The Wuhan Tattoo Festival 2027 will take place at the Wuhan International Expo Center, bringing together tattoo artists, industry professionals, suppliers, collectors, and tattoo culture enthusiasts from China and around the world.
According to the organizers, the upcoming festival is expected to welcome more than 300 tattoo artists representing over 20 countries. The event is being positioned as a major professional platform for Central China — a place where different tattoo traditions, artistic approaches, and professional communities can meet within one international event.
The visual identity of the 2027 festival reflects this dialogue particularly well. Its official poster combines traditional Chinese-inspired imagery, ornamental composition, and tattoo iconography, presenting tattooing not simply as an industry, but as part of a broader visual culture.

Where East and West Meet
One of the central ideas behind the Wuhan Tattoo Festival is international exchange.
Alongside a strong Chinese tattoo scene, the festival plans to host artists from Europe and other regions, creating an opportunity to see very different approaches to contemporary tattooing within the same space — from Asian traditions and large-scale ornamental work to realism, illustrative tattooing, and other modern styles.
For international artists, Wuhan also offers direct access to a tattoo community that can otherwise remain relatively distant from the European and American convention circuit.
The event is organized by ECTAC — the Europe-China Tattoo Artist Club, an association focused on developing professional and cultural connections between the European and Chinese tattoo communities. The organization describes its mission as creating an infrastructure for international artists and tattoo businesses to work, communicate, and establish connections within China.
More Than 300 Tattoo Artists
The scale of the upcoming edition is one of its most notable features.
The organizers expect 300+ participating tattoo artists from more than 20 countries, making Wuhan Tattoo Festival one of the largest international tattoo gatherings announced in Central China for 2027.
Visitors will have an opportunity to discover artists from different tattoo schools and cultural backgrounds, see work being created during the festival, and explore the rapidly developing Chinese tattoo scene alongside invited international participants.
The complete artist lineup has not yet been announced. The official list of participating artists is currently being prepared and will be updated closer to the event.
Tattooing, Culture and Professional Exchange
The festival is conceived as more than a hall filled with tattoo booths.
Its broader program is expected to combine tattooing with professional education, industry presentations, cultural exchange, and networking.
The preliminary festival program includes masterclasses and professional discussions, presentations of tattoo equipment, pigments, and supplies, as well as sessions dedicated to traditional Chinese artistic practices and their influence on contemporary tattoo culture.
The event will also provide a space for communication between artists, studios, suppliers, and international industry representatives.
A tattoo competition is also part of the festival structure, although its categories, judging panel, and detailed rules have not yet been published by the organizers.
One element of the program has already been confirmed: the opening ceremony will feature the Polynesian Art Group. The organizers present the performance as part of the festival's emphasis on the human and cultural dimension of tattooing — an idea that extends beyond technique and connects tattoo art with tradition, history, and identity.

Wuhan as an International Tattoo Meeting Point
For two days, the Wuhan International Expo Center will bring together several parts of the tattoo industry that do not always intersect at conventional tattoo events: tattoo artists, studios, equipment suppliers, international organizations, and local industry professionals.
That makes the Wuhan Tattoo Festival particularly interesting not only for visitors looking to discover new artists, but also for professionals interested in the Chinese tattoo market and in establishing new international connections.
The organizers describe the project through three ideas — History. Creation. Cooperation. In this context, they emphasize that even in an increasingly technology-driven industry, tattooing remains fundamentally connected to people, craftsmanship, and direct cultural exchange.
And this may ultimately be the most interesting aspect of Wuhan Tattoo Festival 2027: instead of simply importing the familiar international convention format into China, the event aims to create a meeting point where the Chinese tattoo scene can interact with artists and professionals from around the world on its own ground.
