Geometry, Spirit, and Skin: The Art of Renato Vision from São Paulo
Tattoo artist Renato Vision

When Renato Vision powers up his tattoo machine, it feels as if he’s tuning in to the very “mind of creation.” Over fourteen years the São Paulo artist has turned geometric blackwork and sacred geometry into a language that expresses what words leave unspoken—philosophy, spiritual quests and the rhythms of the universe. Inside his Quantica Tattoo studio every piece begins with an honest conversation, transforming the session into a ritual where a client’s story is etched into skin.

From a month of self-imposed isolation to tours across Europe, from inking a Hollywood actor to keeping a six-month waiting list, Renato’s journey is built on radical honesty. He swapped the competitive sparkle of conventions for travel and inner exploration. In this interview he explains how tattooing becomes an act of self-discovery—and why authenticity resonates deeper than any trend.

— Renato, tell us a bit about yourself: how long have you been tattooing?

— I did my first tattoo 14 years ago, and since then, tattooing has become not just my profession, but an extension of my personal quest for meaning and expression. Today, I run my own studio in São Paulo, Brazil — Quantica Tattoo— where I work with people from all over the country and abroad. I also love traveling to tattoo and expand my artistic perspective — my most recent trip was to Stuttgart, Germany, in 2025.

Beyond art, I’m deeply inspired by subjects like spirituality, self-knowledge, philosophy, and even ufology. These topics fuel my creative process and often find their way into my designs. I believe tattooing goes far beyond placing an image on the skin; it’s a way of accessing the invisible, giving form to the symbolic, and eternalizing meaningful moments and feelings. My work often acts as a bridge between what is felt and what is revealed through the body.

— Tell us about the beginning of your creative journey: how did it all start, and how did you come to tattooing?

— Since I was a child, drawing has been a natural form of expression for me. Over time, I grew more connected to the world of art, until I discovered tattooing through a studio where I first started working as an assistant. Eventually, I became an apprentice there, and that experience shaped me deeply. It taught me not just how to tattoo, but also what tattooing truly is — the value of respecting the craft, not copying other artists, and behaving with integrity in this world.

— How did you arrive at the style of geometric blackwork and sacred geometry? Was it a gradual path or a conscious choice?

I explored many different styles over the years — traditional, new school, oriental, geometric, tribal, Maori, ornamental… Each one taught me something and helped shape who I am as an artist. Although I achieved technically solid results in those styles, I felt that something was missing: a true sense of identity. So I stopped everything and immersed myself in a deep process of self-discovery. I spent about 40 days in isolation, studying and trying to understand what made sense for me, both as a person and as an artist. Out of that journey, my current style was born — a fusion of geometric blackwork and sacred geometry, grounded in everything I am, believe, and live.

— What does sacred geometry mean to you, and why does it play such an important role in your art?

— Sacred geometry represents the intelligence of creation. It exists in everything — nature, the human body, the cycles of life. For me, it’s a universal language: silent, powerful, and deeply symbolic. Incorporating it into my art is a way of expressing balance, order, and spirituality through visual form. It brings meaning beyond just aesthetics.

— On your Instagram, you often refer to philosophy, psychology, and esotericism. How do these themes find their way into your work?

— Many clients come to me seeking something they can’t fully describe in words, but that they feel deeply. Philosophy and psychology help me better understand these inner searches and guide the creative process with greater sensitivity. These fields give me tools to access a person’s core — something that goes beyond visuals and connects with their story, their symbols, and their inner journey. Every person carries a unique narrative.

— What emotions or states do your clients most often invest in their future tattoos?

— A wide range — stories of overcoming, tributes, spiritual awakenings, family bonds, meaningful friendships, life transformations. Many tattoos are born from intense, life-changing experiences, and translating that into symbolic form is what inspires me the most.

Tattoo artist Renato Vision

— What is most often your source of inspiration in your work?

— Beyond visual art — such as sculptures, architecture, and painting — music is my greatest companion. It’s part of my everyday life and helps me reach creative states. I also draw inspiration from nature’s rhythms, repetitive patterns, and universal structures. All of this nourishes my artistic vision.

— How do you work on a new project? Where does the process of creating a sketch begin?

— It always begins with a deep conversation. By asking the right questions, I’m able to understand the emotions, intentions, and personal stories behind the idea. Only then do I start drawing. Each line is born from that dive into the client’s inner world.

— Are there tattoos in your portfolio that you are especially proud of?

— Yes, many. But that feeling evolves over time as my perspective changes. Some pieces stand out not just for their visual result, but for the message they carry and the connection I had with the client during the process. These tattoos became true rituals.

— You did a tattoo for the famous American actor Jessie Usher. Can you tell us how the process of working on his tattoo went? What kind of request did Jessie come to you with?

— He reached out to me through Instagram — I was genuinely surprised when I saw his message. He said he wanted to get tattooed by me and was willing to come all the way to Brazil for it. And he actually did — during his birthday week, on his first visit to the country. The main reason for his trip was the tattoo. We created a symbolic and meaningful piece: a tribute to his parents, represented by a dragon from the Chinese zodiac.

— Do you have any other well-known people among your clients?

— I’ve tattooed some YouTube influencers, but my focus has always been on the depth of each individual’s story, regardless of fame.

— Tell us a little about your Quantica Tattoo studio in São Paulo. What kind of place is it?

— Black Quantic is a space designed for creativity, evolution, and artistic exchange. It supports four artists. I currently work alongside João — who is now my business partner — and Will. We also keep a guest spot available for visiting tattoo artists who want to share in this environment. The studio is a space of immersion and artistic freedom.

— Now, more than 190,000 people from around the world follow you on Instagram. In your opinion, when did you become a truly popular tattoo artist?

— I believe it happened when I made the decision to fully commit to my own style and show who I really am. When I stopped seeking external validation and started focusing on authenticity, my work began to connect with people on a much deeper level — and that’s a journey that continues every day.

— Do you have experience participating in conventions? If so, please share.

— Yes, I’ve participated in several conventions and won awards at some of them. But over time, I realized that environment tends to feed the ego more than it contributes to true growth. Today, I believe that real evolution comes from the journey — studying, traveling, exchanging experiences, and deepening your identity as an artist. Conventions, for me now, are moments of joy, reunion, and inspiration — not competition.

—  Are you planning any travels or work in other countries this year?

— Yes, I plan to return to Europe, explore Canada, and hopefully carry out a project in the United States as well.

— Tell us, how is your booking situation now? Is there a long waiting list?

— Currently, I have a waiting list of around six months in Brazil. This may vary depending on my travel schedule, but I always try to keep my appointments balanced and well-organized to ensure I’m fully present for each person I work with.
